Eskdale Festival

During this half term some children from KS2 took part in verse speaking at the annual Eskdale Festival, Eve Welford gained 2nd place reciting the poem, “My Pony” and Megan Russell 3rd place with “The Vegetables Strike Back” in their respective classes. Children sang “The Drunken Sailor”, “The Dreamer”, “Please Miss” and “Seek ye First” in the Primary School Singing Classes for which they were prepared by Mrs Haynes. They gained two 2nd places which was a wonderful result as on the day the choir was 3 children short due to illness! Following Y4/5 violin lessons in school with Miss Hydes they took part in the String Ensemble class in which they came equal 3rd place.

We thank everyone for their hard work in preparing the children for the festival and congratulate them on taking part.

A special visitor - December 2009

Father Christmas 'popped in' to wish us all a Merry Christmas. It was very exciting and it even started snowing!

Christmas 2009

Our Christmas production this year was ‘Alice in Wonderland’. All the children took part and performed to two full audiences on Thursday afternoon and Friday evening.

                Ancient Greece - Autumn 09

This term our whole school topic has been based on “Ancient Greece”.

All children took part in a “Greek Afternoon” when they were able to dress up in costume, taste food, play knucklebones, build temples and write their name using the Greek alphabet. KS2 pupils have been writing their own Myths, investigating Greek Gods and designing and making Greek theatre masks.

KS1 pupils have made shields using maths patterns and told the story of The Trojan Horse on Greek vases.

We held a Greek Evening in school when parents were able to help their child/children create a mosaic tile whilst enjoying a few “Greek” snacks.

Grand Opening - October 2009

Over the summer holidays we had quite a lot of work done at St. Hedda’s. We had a new surface laid to the front playground, the infant toilets were refurbished, new carpets were fitted throughout the school, the school gates painted, a new ICT suite in the library and the parish rooms developed. We are very pleased with all these alterations/additions and we celebrated this with a Grand Opening performed by Lady Normanby on Wednesday 7th October.
