Our Curriculum

Our curriculum aims to be interesting, fun, exciting and challenging, with opportunities for out of class learning and trips to excite and encourage imagination.

Topics: Children will learn through a 'creative curriculum', which has been carefully planned around varying topics to include all areas of the National Curriculum. You can download our 'Long Term Plan' here. Our themes for 2017 are Journeys, Flight and 'Beneath our Feet'. See individual class pages for more details.

Phonics: Our phonics scheme is primarily centred around 'Read Write Inc', although other resources are used to complement this. Children are taught phonics daily in Reception to Year Two and as needed in other Year Groups.

Reading: In Class One we use a mixture of Oxford Reading Tree, All Aboard and ‘free readers’. We listen to all children read individually every day.
Class Two have their own reading scheme which includes a wide range of books from many different publishers which are levelled to make sure they are appropriately matched to meet the needs of each individual. Schofield and Simms comprehension is used regularly in small groups as a 'Guided Reading' style activity to ensure children have regular in-school practice reading aloud as well as deepening comprehension skills with a teacher.

Spelling: As a follow-on from "Read, Write Inc." phonics, we follow the Twinkl age-related spelling scheme, with individual words for children to practise at home, as well as a daily taught spelling session or activity to deepen and consolidate spelling knowledge. This runs through the school from year 2 to 6.

RE: We follow the well-established Catholic Scheme, 'Come and See', to deliver our RE in school.
