About Our School

St Hedda’s School is situated in the beautiful countryside of the Esk Valley in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, approximately eight miles from the town of Whitby. St Hedda’s is a voluntary aided Roman Catholic primary school. It is the only Roman Catholic primary school in the rural area outside Whitby, serving, in addition to Egton Bridge itself, the surrounding villages from Goathland to Castleton.

The school’s origins date back to 1798 when records show that lessons commenced in what had been the original church building. Many changes have taken place since that time and the present school building is well equipped to provide education for the twenty-first century.

The main building is made up of two generous sized classrooms, library/computing area and admin offices. In addition, we have access to the parish rooms - a bright, airy space perfect for extending our early years provision. We are also lucky to have a recently-built, dedicated canteen building, which incorporates an additional classroom for small group work.
