Homework

There are many things you can do at home to support your child's learning. Homework is given as an aid to this, although expectations differ between year groups:

Class 1 Homework:

Reading at home is extrememly important, particularly in the early stages of learning to read. Children take home reading books, and can be a lovely time spent together. Where a parent signs homework diaries to say they have read with their child, children are awarded house points. In addition, weekly spellings are set for children to take home to learn. These are linked to the week's phonics focus or spelling pattern.

Class 2 Homework:

Children have a learning log so that they may choose how they express their own learning and interests. Each term open-ended activities are identified that children can choose from each week.  Activities may include 3D, IT and/or modelling work.  Models and other items, not suitable for the learning log, can be brought into school or shown as photos in books. This work is celebrated weekly, with children often proudly displaying their work for classmates to see.

As well as learning logs, children are given a set of spellings to learn at home, read their band book and practice a set of times tables (multiplication or division facts).

Homework learning logs will usually be given out on a Friday and collected in on the following Wednesday. Times table and spellings are given out on a Friday, and tests take place during the following Friday.
