Please remember that at this age, choice of activity from the child and free time to play at their own chosen activity is very important for their development. After a 10 minute focused task, your child may need free flow time to relax and engage in a different activity of their own choice.  Stories, rhymes and games played with adults are crucial for vocabulary development and enjoyment of learning. In Reception the learning needs to be led by the child and encouraged to follow their own passions and interests.  Any outdoor time you can have is very valuable.  This will be dependent on the weather and the government guidelines.

Daily Read, Write Inc Phonics lessons can be found here -

Reception children are currently working on Set 1 and Set 2 sounds.

In your learning packs there are copies of phonics game to play at home. Interactive phonics games can also be found on the Phonics Play website -

Your child should have received a new reading book last week, if your child needs their reading book changing please contact me. In the home learning packs there are also Daily Ditty Activities and tricky word tasks for your child to complete.

This week we are continuing to focus on writing simple sentences that contain a capital letter to start, finger spaces between each word and a full stop at the end of the sentence. These sentences can be about anything! If your child has drawn a picture of a family pet, ask them to add a sentence underneath.

Maths - Number

This week we are using the Numberblocks episode Stampolines to help us understand that numbers can be represented and made up in different ways. We are using objects such as cubes to help us with the writing of our number sentence and working out our answer. We are also continually working on ordering numbers to 20 and finding 1 more and 1 less of a number.

Maths - Shape, Space and Measure

We are working on ordering two or three objects by their height or length. This week we are concentrating on using the correct vocabulary when making direct comparisons e.g. the spaghetti is shorter in length than the skipping rope.

Last week we are starting our new science topic of plants. Can you label the parts of a plant and tell an adult the role of each of the plants parts?
