Autumn Term

Class 2 have split their ’Journeys’ topic up into a number of areas:

  • Journey into the past - This term we will be delving into ancient Mayan civilisations. As well as investigating the historical side, we’ll be producing artwork, drawing and clay work, to creatively express what we’ve learnt.
  • The Desperate Journey - Our English lessons will all be centred around a book called The Desperate Journey. Set in the 1800s, it follows a family through desperate times journeying from their village home, to a city and then on a transatlantic voyage to Canada in search of a better life. We will be writing diary entries, persuasive adverts and our own journey stories.
  • Journey of electricity - Science and DT will investigate effective circuits, conductors and insulators and how to draw circuits correctly. We will then create a ‘buzz wire’ themed game and towards December our own electronic Christmas decorations.
  • Journeying safely - Our PSHE curriculum this term will cover health and wellbeing, and staying safe. We will be looking at how to keep ourselves healthy and safe, and who there is to help us if something goes wrong.
  • Our Mathematical Journey - We cover a wide variety of topics in class, many of which rely upon sound knowledge of times tables and division facts. Many apps/websites can help children practice these at home: those who know these facts find many calculation strategies considerably easier.
