This year our topics are Journeys, Flight and 'Beneath our Feet'.

Autumn Term:

Class One will be reading the series of books by Rhonda and David Armitage including our focus text of The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch.  This links to the geographical vocabulary of islands and physical features as well as forming a basis for our map work.  This will continue after half term when we focus on the well known historical figure of Grace Darling.

We intend to design and make a working lighthouse, taking into consideration the properties of materials.  Within science we also will be looking at waterproofing, floating and sinking, and seasonal changes. We are hoping to visit the coast and/or coastguard to learn more about how people keep us safe.

Our topic lends itself really well to descriptive writing, recounts of events and creative poetry, all of which we will be doing.
